I was doing some maintenence stuff on my KDX this weekend. I decided to pull off the linkage arm and grease it up as I just took the shock to get serviced. I've been using Mobil1 synthetic grease, but I don't think it stand up to well against water. My lower shock bearing was pretty dry and rusted a little along with the bushing. Luckily I had some spares, every other bearing looked OK. Was thinking about going to Bel Ray waterproof grease but was wondering if there was something better out there for greasing bearings and such and to keep the water out. I figured that the linkage might have to be serviced more than every 6 months. More like 3 months. Any thoughts?

BelRay Waterproof Grease. The Blue Stuff!

I used some generic marine waterproof grease on my steering head bearing and linkage bearings +6 years ago

Most of the bearings were still very serviceable

I think you'd be ok using whatever waterproof grease you have available

Anyone ever use Lucas Oil heavy duty wheel bearing grease? I picked up a tub of it on the weekend. Says it has good water resistance.
By the way, does grease breakdown in the container over time? I've got a tube that's probably 8-10 years old and I'm a little reluctant to use it...maybe I'm being a little paranoid...

If it looks milky... it has absorbed water and should be tossed.

Do you guys think that waterproof grease gets "sticky" as it gets wet/ages.

I've been using some Castrol industrial type waterproof grease. The guys at the bearing shop said it was about the best stuff going. It seems that when I pull stuff apart to inspect, that waterproof grease doesn't slide like it used too. Make sense? Of course....the grease is still there....I guess that's what it's supposed to do.

I have some Bel Ray grease, white tub with blue cap, but the grease looks more dark green than blue. Maybe I should just get some new stuff.

nah, its a blue green color.

Mystik Marine Grease by Citgo - hasn't failed me yet and it's super cheap. Like $2-$3 for a 14oz tube.
