Anyone use old mixed fuel in an automobile?

I just rebuilt the top end on the KDX220 I was given. My brother-in-law use to run 50:1 and he gave me a can of fuel thats probably been sitting for 2 years. Its also 100 octane airplane fuel for some reason.

Because I have a fresh piston I want to run the recommended Ratio of oil (Think I saw 40:1 and the manual 32:1 which I can search and find the opinions of)

So I need to get rid of probably 3-4 gal of 50:1...(if it wasn't so old I'd just add oil to the recommended ratio.)

Having never delt with mixed fuel could I put it in a 4cylinder car and top it off with a full 10 more gal of fresh fuel?

AVGAS is not good for cars or motorcycles. If it's bluish then it's 100 LL (low lead) which has 4 times more lead than the leaded auto fuel used to have. If it's greenish then it has even more lead. Lead is very bad for fuel injected (and catylist equiped) cars. I use all my old premix in my lawn mower. It won't make them smoke and when you mow the lawn it makes you feel young because it smells like fresh cut grass and dirt bikes all in one.
If you have an old pre 1975 car then you may be able to mix it with regular gasoline but it's probably not a good idea.

Is he TRYING to make you fail! Just give it back and tell him you can't use it.

Use non-synthetic oil in a regular high octane fuel (40:1 is fine). Warm it up well and ride it like you stole it. Those rings will seat hard and it will be the best top end you have ever done......

Run it through your lawn mower, car or whatever...

If you are worried about it, dillute it some

I run premix through my truck and on my streetbike once in awhile, never had a problem

It's the leaded part that's the problem. No car with a cataclysmic converter is going to like lead at ALL. Neither will your O2 sensor probably.

Like Brian said...a non-cat vehicle would be OK...or your lawnmower like Wibby said..or, like Inda said, give it back to your brother-in-law...who obviously hates you for some reason.

He's a well-meaning fellow. he thought AV gas was a cheaper (more convenient for him) fuel than race fuel. and in his mind 100 octane must be better than 93. Not sure where he got the 50:1 ratio?

Anyway drained it all from the tank, and I'll will pick up fresh this evening.

Man, I have a lot to learn about 2strokes. Thanks for all the mentoring!

Might not want it on break-in

But there's nothing wrong with running 50:1

My throttle response feels a lot snappier running 50:1

Make a bonfire with that gas. Probably more enjoyment from it too vs trying to break in a new piston. Could you ever be sure about the piston with gas your questioning? Probably not. If your worry about it now, just imagine how you will worry when your 50 miles out in the woods... (not good).

I dump old premix, or any old gas for that matter in my '66 suburban at times. Usually I do it when I fuel up as to dilute the crappy gas. The old tired high compression 454 pings under a load no matter what grade fuel I use. It's got good forged pistons, I just turn up the radio. :supz:

I like to run good synthetic 40:1 in my 2 smokers. Back in the day of air cooling, used to run 30:1 Bel Ray, but now I'm showing my age.

Not to start an argument but, I have had good results running AV gas in my two strokes at the dunes. They seem to run cooler on the stuff. I learned that from my old boss who has a 2 stroke Evinrude V8 in his sand car.

My father and all his riding buddies used to run a 50/50 mix with Av Gas and normal 91 octane gas all the time back in the 70's and through to the 90's. I got my old Husky from one of my Dad's friends, and before I got it, that was all that had ever been run through it.

LOL. I had a young neighbor that ran outta diesel in his new Excursion out in the desert sands. I think he used 10W-40 oil mixed with gasoline. His truck ended up in the shop with a warranty claim  He also blew up a brand new Raptor when they first came out. Sheesh!

just dump it in the car a gallon or 2 of 100ll wont hurt anything. At my local airport they have a beat up ford escort loaner you can use if your a out of town pilot etc.Its had more 100ll ran through it than you could imagine as they use it to dispose of all the ramp drain gas
