Does anyone know if I can run 13/49 gearing with the stock chain on a 2005 KDX 220? I think 12/47 will be a bit low for me.

Thanks,

John

if the stock chain is streched,it will work,a.k.a. snails are on the big part of the cam...past 7 or 8.try this For a good chain.EBAY item #170127251875.thay also have 110 link if you look in their store.i have been running one for years with no problems.also jt steel sprockets on ebay for $25.00 from lytle racing.J$.

jaydollar,

Thanks for the feedback. I see you are running 13/49 gearing...how do you like it, and what type of riding do you do?

Thanks,

John

no prob jb.mostly tight single track with a lot of ups and downs.stock gearing 2nd and 3rd seemed a bit to high, the 49 made it perfect for me with no real noticeable loss in the top end for the occasional fire road,J$.

That's the same type of riding I do here in middle Tennessee, and I think the stock gearing is a bit too tall. I've got a 49t rear coming...hope my chain is long enough. If not, I've got spare links and master links to make it work.

Thanks again,

John

I'm running 13/50 and needed a 110 (stock is 108).
Everything is new and my adjusters are on 5.

I installed the 49t sprocket last weekend, and really like the combo (13/49). 1st gear isn't so low that it's unusable, and the gearing ratio seems to be much better. I think 12/47 would have been a little low. Also, I had to add two links to my chain (108 to 110), and my snails are on 7.

I am now running 14/52 up from 13/52. Much better for the desert riding i do in New Mexico. 108 chain but I am thinking a 110 would be better in the long run.

It is, although it still looks good. The bike is new to me after selling my 94XR250 and buying this 04 for the same 1700.00. This bike is much better for my riding style.
