All,
I have a 1997 KDX 220 and ride woods and track (Weisco Piston and air box lid removed with new filter). I do not race.
I want to know what the best mods are:
Boysen power reeds
VForce 3 reeds
RAD valves
FMF Gnarley (woods) pipe
FMF Turbine Core II
PCII Pipe
304 Silencer
Steathly 10oz fww
Carb
Head
Jetting
Front and Rear Sprocket Ratios?
Bash plate?
Pipe gaurd?

VForce 3 reeds
(the best of all reeds)
FMF Gnarley (woods) pipe
(Rev for a 220)
FMF Turbine Core II
(spark arrestor for the future of the sport)
Head
(best to give punch for a 220)
With this setup, you can ride a 13-47 sprockets combo stock).
Handguards and skidplate are the MINIMUM in protection to ride.

You forgot the most important one IMHO: suspension tuned to your weight makes a world of difference...
Everything is somewhat relative to how much money you want to spend and still concider a good mod...
Like Boysen power reeds are a very good upgrade and it's cheaper (30 bux?) than the V force(150 bux?), but some (most?) concider the V force to be a bit better than boyseen. Is that woth the price difference to you that's what matters. Anyway.
Well jetted carb also is a cheap and great "mod"
pipe
reeds
RB HEAD and carb mod
then everything else is a matter of preference / style and type of terrain.

39mm is over the top! You will lose bottom end.
An RB'd carb mod is what you need.... Jetting depends on your altitude.
Same for the head... RB will recut it for you to increase your bottom end.

You don't need a flywheel weight really....

as i live in Australia - is it still worth sending carb and head to rb in usa?
What will rb designs actually do to the carb and head?

I never believed a FWW would have helped me on my 220 and I was fine without it; however, I can't say that I tried it.
One other thing Byte - if you have the stock piston in there replace it with a Wiseco. Before you do anything else.

I guess if you like a delay before you start moving and a delay when you let off... that's cool. Otherwise I never seen a need. My bike stays running and takes allot to kill it.

Thansk Jeb.
You get around!
I know you know I own a new KTM as well.
I guess I just love my bikes! :-)
Yes - It already has the Wiesco piston inside.

Ron will bore the carb to 36mm, he will install a divider plate, he will cut the slide to a 7 and some other magic.
On the head he will recut the squish band and mill the deck..
Worth it? I would say so... and everyone who has ever had it done will agree... it's night and day!

thanks indawoods.
Is 36mm the magic size?
So, despite the fact that I would have hundreds of people in Australia who could do the same task, woudl it still be worth sending the unit OS to RB for his expertise?
Or - should I simply buy a new airstriker pwk carb 36mm?

For a 220, I don't think it's needed. I had one and gave it to m0rie because I honestly couldn't tell the difference except it did keep me from stalling the bike as often. But after I got an autoclutch... nada.

Buy a head and carb off eBay, have it drop shipped to RBDesigns, then have him ship it to me and I'll mail it to you. That way you would still have your old head /carb and it probably would be cheaper than mailing yours round trip.
BTW I've helped out other Aussies with getting parts this way. It's just a way I can "pay-it-forward" so to speak; helping out another rider!!
****EDIT****
Rereading here; I think it would be better to send just the head and buy a modded airstryker from Ron Black.
On the reason no one else does what Ron does; he dinks with the idle circuit and air screw actually does something. What he does, well, I can't tell you and neither can anyone else. But it works and works great.

If there were hundreds of people who could do what Ron does... then why aren't they doing it? Ron has been in the motor business for 30 something years I believe...
36mm is to make up for the plate that is installed.
If you have a 28mm carb though... that ain't gonna cut it. Ron has to start with a 35mm PWK.

SKiPro3 =
That's a very unique and smart thing!
Really apprecaite it!
How many other times have you done this for fellow Ozzie riders?
Do I just get the stock 33mm carb off ebay?

Thanks Indawoods.
You are right. When they claim they can emualte RB - they proably can't.
RB must be legendry!
I love it!
