I just recieved and installed and frp (fredette racing products) torque ring on my 2006 kdx 200. The machine is totally stock before. What the ring does is acts as a spacer between exhaust port and pipe. It replaces a thin copper ring and improves low end. I bought it thinking what the heck its only ten bucks if it works great if not at least not out much and its something to talk about. I installed it in probally ten minutes of time. I noticed a increase right off the bat. The lowend power is noticeably snappier and more crisp. Just wanted to tell everyone my findings.

Ya, I have always wondered how that could make much a difference. Glad to hear it works. Do you notice any less power anywhere else?

honestly no. I really like the it. I dont understand why it works unless its making the pipe longer adding torque which I dont know if thats what making a pipe longer does

I have read some prior posts that the ring works pretty good to increase torque.
I thought I recall the only issue with it was concern for damage to jug/cylinder if you hit the pipe with something.

I wondered about the removal of the copper ring causing any other damage.. figured cheap first mod for a while... got some 01 kx 500 forks to install sometime, moose contour guards, moose skid, moose oil drain plug with magnet, and some michelin s12 tires on there now as well.. So starting with the easy and important stuff first. Protection and handling.

Should always get your suspension right first!
I have always heard guys ditching those torque rings after a while. Personally I have never tried one since I don't think it would do anything for me. Moose used to sell carb spacers too... those never took off...
Just suspension and jetting will take you a long long way.... after that I would play with some of the RB mods if I was you....

really?!? thought fredette really knew his stuff. any other kdx vets have experiences with these things?? only $10, but if a waste of $$ it's not worth the bother...
personally, i plan on getting rb'd sometime soon. but i figured maybe this thing was worth a shot...

for ten bucks if your bike is stock why not. I am thinking of the rb head someday, but for now its just fine.

I tried one and did not like it. Throttle response down low was marginally improved, yes. But it wrecked what little top end my 200 has, and nearly completely removed the powerband "hit". Maybe I will try it again when I get az new pipe.

I think CC, Wibby, Skipro3 and all the old dogs have tried the torque ring and said what was said here... you lose the topend. I just thought it was a gimick... if it works for you, that cool! The biggest performance gains I had were first the pipe, then the DeltaForce 3 reed cage, then the RB carb and finally the RB head mod of course after the suspension....

I'm still running one
Does it do anything?
Dunno, but it sure can't hurt
In gear, I'm sure I'm over 300 lbs, and I ride my old '92 just about anywhere Carvr rides his '00. Even been a few places ol' Skipro had lots of trouble on
