Got a new flywheel puller but I can't get that darned nut off in order to use the puller. How do you hold the flywheel in place so you can turn that nut off?

2002 KDX 200 by the way, if that matters.

From what I have read here, block the rear wheel/ jam it as not to move and use an impact.

Yeah, that'll work. I have a nice wedge shaped piece of wood that fits in the front sprocket.

Stealthy makes a nice little tool - plastic piece that screws in from your spark plup area. It stops the piston.

I had a guy sitting on my bike, another pushing down on the back of it, bike in gear, and the bike up against the receiver of my truck. Wouldnt budge with a big ratchet. Hooked up a 3/8 impact, and it zapped that nut right off there!

The impact action helps a ton, and can avoid stressing other parts in the driveline.

On this note:

This is a handy method, and I've done similar rigs where you can put a dowel through the exhaust port to stop the piston. However I avoid this method at all costs as I think it causes unessecary pressure on your crank/rod/rod bearings/etc. I'd much rather stress the beefy trans, or use a strap to eliminate unwanted stress alltogether (like wibs). I've even sometimes gotten by with a rag shoved inbetween case and rotating part (rotor, clutch basket), and letting the rag bind enough to hold it. Sometimes the piston stop method is the only thing you can get by with, ala motor on a bench.

I used an oil filter wrench. It held perfectly. Success!!
