Forks sticking

All right all most done last nite got everything together. But when got the bike off the stand and set on I applied the front brake and pushed down. It seemed like the forks were sticking. 1st I checked and made sure the lower triple clamps weren't to tight they were fine. Then I took the wheel back off and then I could actually compress the forks by grabbing the bottom and pressing up. So I put the wheel back on and before tightening it down I noticed there was a tiny gap between the spacer and fork. After tighting it stuck again. I think that I'm pinching the forks when tighten. Going to try try some washers to see if it helps then a machine shop for some spacers. Unless anyone thinks it could be something different. thanks for any help

Yes... your assembly procedure is incorrect. Very common.
Lower clamps loose, wheel pinch bolts loose.
Now... press up and down on the frontend several times... this will align everything... torque lower clamp bolts to no more that 12 ft lbs... some go 10. Wheel pinch bolts to spec.
Now it should be free....

What about it... that is not where it binds... unless you have them uneven.

Inda Tried what you said and it was still sticking. So I tried a washer on the axle and it worked. I think where I went wrong was 01 axle/spacer for 02 forks. I know not a perfect fix but will work until I get something machined. Thought about buying new ones but figured this way I wouldnt have to guess the year. Incase i ended up with the wrong year from ebay. Thanks for the help. :

Got washers on both sides of my "incorrect" axle/spacers. Worked great all year, so far........

Thanks. I think that this is what my current problem is. I have tried washers on both sides, but that didn't help me.
