hey guys i was wondering if a 2007 Klx300r front end would fit on my 02 220? they are the same frame and all.

The steering bearing have the same part number, as do the triple clamps. This should be a drop in.

Why not? I thought that the newer upside down forks were all better than the conventionals on the KDX.

Not all USD forks are created equal. The cr125 forks on my hybrid are much beefier (read stiffer) than my 94 kdx200 cr125 forks. Also, some are stiffer, but the guts are no better than traditional forks. The nicer forks have dual chambers, or cartridge damping, etc.
BTW, what part of Idaho? I spent more years than I care to think of in Moscow.

I would use the KLX Clamps and find some real MX forks of the same diameter as KLX.

i looked at the klx forks on the 2008 model at the kaw dealer the other day; i would use the klx set-up and maybe revalve them (make stiffer). i thought one of the big reason for using the USDs is to get rid of the 4" under hang!
because, i seriously can't the the differance between my re-valved 2001 kx forks and my connys other than knowing that theres no under-hang thats going to grab the front end and send you over the bars! that alone will make you a better rider (its one last thing to think about).

Do they have BOTH compression and rebound adjustment? The KX forks are superior

superior in what way?? consider your not hitting large table tops and triples on a KDX !

Real adjustments, BOTH adjustments, modern valving (assuming you convert to a lete model setup) which can be quite plush in woods yet very bottom resistant on big things. Cost might even be close depending on where you source your front end. Are the forks you're asking about better than the stock KDXers? Sure, but not worth the effort aside from eliminating underhang...From what some have posted KX500's are a direct bolt-in and a true USD fork...Albeit not quite as good as the sub 5-6yr old stuff.
If you can't tell the difference then no biggie...Underhang is in fact one of the biggest reasons to switch. Again, sourcing the parts may end up consting the same, and then why bother...
