MX fender is on!

Man, how do you know when your doing too much?
I went to extremes. Its a 90-91 KX 250 fender that I fitted to my 92 250.

I fitted the fender and got it all bolted up in no time.
Bolted everything back on and it just didn't match up like I was hoping.
Next, the tools came out. Hot air welder and my my dremel pro.

Here is what I did.

Welded on a 1/4" shouder using some doner plastic from the old fender.
Shaped it so the side plate would rest on it.

Then I used some hot air to form the side plate profile so it matched the fender. I already took it to a whole new level so I went ahead and lowered the seat 1/4 inch to clean up the gap.

Kept the fender supports but I lopped them off where they turned down so the rubber dampers are still in place and functional. If you kneel down you can only see about 1/8th inch of the bottom of the support.

Here is the fit

Now I'm happy
Now if I loop it I'm gonna cry!
If I keep this up I'm not gonna wanna ride it no more, its too pretty:roll:

Thanks Rick!

About half way through I was like, "man, what am I doing!".
It was allot of tedious work. If I did it over I would just weld tabs on instead of a shoulder. Even though they're hidden, I had to make em look pretty.

All you really need to weld thermal set plastic is a hot air gun with a 3/8 or 1/4 inch dia. reducer. My setup has LCD temp readout, variable speed fan, and temp setting. All the bells and whistles are nice but not needed.

Just stay away from the glorified soldering irons.

If you need help with your fender, I'm down.
Some seem to fit fine without going to extremes.

Thats awesome, I've done alittle hot air welding but I dont think I could do that good of a job. How does the bike look now with the MX fender on compared to the stock one?

Bikes just been hanging out on my patio for months.
I cheated and added the pipe protector in my graphic program. I am glassing one right now and its 50% complete.
Thinking about having it sprayed with bed liner.
