I just purchased a set of 2000 KX500 forks with clamps and need to know if a 2000 KX250 front wheel/hub& axle will work with it. I know the axle hub and LH lower fork tube part numbers are different. KX500 hub#1226, axle#1342, LH lower fork tube #1413.the Kx250 shared the hub and axle numbers from93 thru98. In 99 they changed to the numbers that follow. The 2000 KX250 hub#1300, axle#1406, not sure about the LH lower fork tube think it may be #1460. I heve heard that some parts have different numbers but appear to be very similar and are compatable. I am thinking that maybe the wheel will work but i will need to use the newer axle. Any insight would be appreciated. I am watching a 2000kx250 wheel and need to figure out if i can use it with my 2000KX500 forks. thanks

the axel and spacer are differant, the wheel will work. you will need to get a 98 axel and spacers.

I used a '90 +/- wheel and it worked. If the axle diameter is the same, and I believe they all are up to this decade....the axle needed is definitely the KX500 type with associated spacers. It has a special collar/nut on one side which works within a pinch clamp. Even if the center location of the hub might be off slightly, the pinch clamps on both sides will allow some lateral movement so the brake rotor can allign properly.
I used a 1990 era KX125 wheel, a 1998 KX500 axle/spacers (spacers are the same on both sides) and 2003 KX500 forks.

For anyone interested : I just bought a 98 KX125 wheel for a spare. It came with the axle and it is identical, spacers and all, to the KX500 axle.
