Hello all,

I have noticed something interesting going on with motorcycle specific forums. I think the overall consensus is that most people with basic tools and mechanical ability tend to trust their own work more than any dealer/service shop. Perfect for forum members helping each other out.

Now that being said we all know that there are some really good shops around and others we would not trust to change the air in the tires. Would it be helpful to have a forum area that members can list the shops that have a good service reputation, so when members here don't have the skills necessary you can at least have some level of comfort about who works on your bike.

It would seem to be a win-win situation for everyone the power of the internet at its best. Good service gets good referalls other wise savy consumers will go somewhere else.

What do you think?

The majority of all work on a dirt bike can be done by the owner "if" the owner possess good mechanical knowledge, skills, tools and the service manual. There are many 14 year old kids out there that wrench their bikes and do good work. Some work that needs specialized tools requires going to the service dept. or machine shop. Other than boring, honing, nitrogen charging etc. I don't need the service dept. There is nothing the local shop mechanic knows about my bike that I don't know nor are they any more qualified because I am my own best mechanic. So in short, I personally don't use the dealer service dept.

Ditto... $65 an hour.... Shhh.... No way am i paying someone to mess my bike up.

I agree with everyone I do my own service also.

The point I was trying to make was to create a Forum area that people who needed to use a dealer for various reasons could post their reports thats all.

my work is not just good... it is excellent thank you very much, and i am 16 by the way.

I think we would all agree that the best shop of our bike is our own garage

Maybe it's just me...but a plain question (seems to me) being asked that gets answered with completely differently based (and I don't get the application) answers bugs me.

Such a link/post may fit into the the 'Product Review' page on this site.

Any person curious enough to look deep enough into the web to find a service links type page would likely also be curious enough to find out what he needed to know to do the job himself?

Yeah...I understand that doesn't fit the premise of the question, either. I said it bugs me...I didn't say I never done it!

If I knew of such a shop in this area, I'd post something about it.

RB-Designs is not a bike 'shop'..but you will find plenty of posts on this site about the quality of his work, referrals to him and recommendations from riders that have used his services.

Maybe not as fast as bad news, but good news DOES travel at a pretty good clip. IMO, the reason there isn't a whole lot said about 'good' shops is there are very few OF them. I've been wrenching for over 30 years. I could take hours ranting about my bad experiences with 'shops'. Good ones? Uh....well....uummmmmm.......there's only one, and that would be Ron Black.

That's not just 'shops'. It also is true of contractors, service providers, vendors, etc etc....

If you have such an input that's not an advertisement, put it in the above mentioned forum. How 'bout that?
