leftover KX125 engine wanted, 1999-2002?

Post by Chuck78 »

Just curious if any of you KX/KDX hybrid builders happen to have a leftover 1999-2002 KX125 engine to sell?

Instead of building a hybrid, I'm looking at 2 options.
1.) to deck out one of my 220's with as many lightweight and titanium or aluminum parts as possible, and with RM125/KX250F etc Showa suspension,
while also...
2.) looking at the possibility of building up another bike - a 1995-1998 KX125 as a woods ported 134cc or 139cc 18" wheel enduro toy... much lighter than a KDX hybrid!

I'm looking especially for a 2002 (best top end power valve design) engine or a 2000 model year engine (best stock low/mid range torque porting of all years KX125). I'm leaning towards a 1996-1998 bike, and the later 98-02& 03-05/08 cylinders have a bit better design, especially the torquey 2002. The 1995-1997 cranks are harder to come by as well, and the 98-02 cranks do not interchange. Seems best if Id fit a 99-02 bottom end into a '97, or a purple '96 with the '97-'98 KX125 swingarm and 99-02 top end and 98-02 bottom end...
If I got a 1998 bike, I'd just need to swap out the top end for a 99-02. 01-02 also have the ability to get 144cc pistons for them, so the 2002 top end is really the most ideal cylinder and power valve componentry. Cases have to have some transfer port matching done for 01-02 cylinders onto the 95-00 cases though, but no big deal.

Thanks! I hope this doesn't offend anyone posting a wanted parts request not in the classifieds, but it seemed more appropriate here where it will get more views...
