250 starting problems
Very difficult to start my kdx..once its warmed up starts easily. I live in warm climate. Any ideas on what might be wrong? Recently changed to a 33mm chinese carb as the 35 mm original needs repairing and I have not found a repair kit yet.

Welcome to kdxrider.
Assuming everything else is OK, carb or reeds would be where I started.

My guess is that Chinese carb is a pile of doo doo.
If you lend someone $20, and never see that person again, it was probably worth it.

Re: 250 starting problems
Chinese carbs have poor quality control. Seldom are they going to meet the required precision to get the job done as good as proper OEM spec carbs.

Re: 250 starting problems
What is the issue with the OEM carb?
How did it run before the OEM carb went bad?

Re: 250 starting problems
You just need a float needle and float bowl gasket for the OEM carb, and definitely a good idea to change out the jet block gasket with a genuine OEM Keihin part, not aftermarket. It's not shown on the Kawasaki parts diagrams, but it's there. You just have to order it from Sudco, Jets R Us, or JD Jetting to get a guaranteed genuine Keihin part.
Apologies if you've said you already replaced the jet block gasket, I didn't have time to read the thread again.
The float needle or a gummed up seat for the fooat needle, along with proper float height adjustment, I believe 18mm is the accepted spec vs OEM calling for 16mm, & your OEM carb issue will hopefully be resolved.

Re: 250 starting problems
Yeah, if you turn on the gas and gas just starts pouring out the overflow you have a stuck float, easily cleaned up with a carb clean/rebuild. Likely that's all that's keeping you from running your OEM carb. The Chinese clones are $30 for a reason

Check for the rubber cone not sealing against the face.

Re: 250 starting problems
My local mechanic says I need new float bowl gasket. I would prefer a full repair kit. Not sure which one to buy.KDXGarage wrote: 02:24 pm Jul 14 2024 Can you post a picture of what you are seeing so we can see it too? Instructions in my signature.

Re: 250 starting problems
Did that bike come stock with a PJ carb? In the USA, our KDX's had the PWK from 1988 onward.

What year and exact model is it?
Do you have a VIN or frame number you can post? Thanks. A place called impex has parts diagrams.

Re: 250 starting problems
Is this a KDX250SR?
The parts may be different between an offroad model PWK36 & an SR street legal model, but the type of parts needed will be the same, float needle and float bowl gasket, perhaps jet block gasket.
