Perhaps someone can answer my question here - my '99 came with an OEM rear axle with the snail cam adjuster welded to the non-threaded side of the axle.
My '97 (which may have had a KLX300 rear wheel on it, as prev.owner had leftover KLX forks on it, and was upgrading his KLX with supermoto wheels) has the snail cam adjusters both loose, not welded to the non-threaded side of the axle.

Did Kawasaki jump back and forth on this, or was this a KLX thing?

Ultimately, I'd like to get a batch of titanium KDX rear axles made up, problem solved! No fronts, as most people who'd drop big $$$ on titanium hardware would also be upgrading to a better fork, and most modern bikes' forks will have titanium front axles available already...

Here's the 1999 info on the rear axle. My opinion is that the welded cam adjuster equals "quick release" for racing. Two loose ones equals more trouble when quick changing wheels. If it is at the house, then it won't matter much.

Wow... Very interesting!
Mine are a '99 (welded snail cam) & '97 (not welded,so I suspect this was from previous owner's KLX300 - which must've been a 2000+... The axle spacers also were about 1mm or 2mm thinner overall vs the fitment on my '99, so perhaps also KLX items...

The 95-06 KDX's are generally all identical and 99.5% parts interchange, but there are a lot more subtle differences than we realize!

I know my '87 front axle has the little grab bar on it for what I think are quick change purposes.

I wonder if that store would sell just 1 for the right side for those that have the earlier axles.

EDIT ADD-ON: The service manual versions had some tiny changes also. For example, rear axle nut torque was increased from 72 foot-pounds to 80 foot-pounds.

They do offer a service to machine off your stock welded on snail cam adjuster and re-plate the axle in zinc or nickel plating, it's on the webpage for the adjusters

Interesting that the aluminum snails are currently their only featured product currently, must be a brand new website. They have some nice machines.

If they are looking for product ideas Chuck, maybe you could suggest to them machining power valves for H model bikes? Also clutch actuators are hard to find… and front wheel spacers for swapping out the odometer piece for race bikes… and the special axel for using KDX front wheels in KX forks!

We can definitely provide ideas for more products!

As far as aluminum snails go, they’re mighty pretty but I a wonder if they handle the beating my old steel ones get in the WV rocks we have?

I'm still waiting on the purple batch!

They offered me a set of blue blems for free due to my wait time after multiple inquiries, but I passed up on the offer, as I only am interested in purple!
