Will this stuff work to help correct worn exhaust port?

I had trouble sealing my exhaust even with rtv last time around. I could’ve probably used a bit more rtv but I definitely don’t want to deal with it again and saw this stuff I thought about using in between the orings in conjustion with some rtv. Supposedly “ Viton seals provide an indefinite seal for temperatures up to 400°F, and for temperatures up to 600°F they offer an excellent seal for more than 48 hours.” and I have seen that they work well for the orings. The stuff in the link is rated for 500 degrees so technically it could work. Thanks

I've never seen a port that worn out that o-rings and/or RTV wouldn't seal it. Anyway, I don't think tape would work that well IMO but, who knows, it just might. I would go with more RTV before trying that tape.

Be careful with RTV. Any excess can be amputated and pushed out the exhaust into the spark arrestor. Clogged spark arrestors tend to degrade power output.

That's why I run the bead of RTV only on the pipe. As you push it in it can't get in to the exhaust stream and either restrict flow there or as you mentioned.

Got it, thank you all. I might need to bend the pipe because it was only leaking on one side of the bike. Was thinking of doubling up springs on each side to really crush the copper gasket but worried about breaking the fittings on the cylinder.

Are the rubber exhaust hangers or the silencer pulling the pipe to one side so it doesnt seal good?

Sounds to me like your pipe is bent. You can use a snipe inside the end while holding the pipe in a vice to bend it back out to where its supposed to be.

How would you suggest holding the pipe in the vice without damaging it and what is a “snipe”, thanks

Snipe is also known as a cheater bar. Use a bit of heat and go slowly.

Will do. Just gonna stick it in the exhaust port and see how far away I am from the engine mounts then take it off and bend it in till it gets lined up nicer cause it was definitely far off. Thanks

I’d cut off a piece of old tire and wrap it around the pipe , then carefully squeeze it in the vise.

Trying to bend the pipe near the cylinder end seems like a great way to screw up a pipe to me. I'd go with the RTV on the pipe only with new O-rings.

The problem is I have done this and it still ends up with a leak. I don’t think FMF’s quality control is the best when it comes to fitment. Thanks

If the pipe has been bent in a fall, it's necessary to bend it back, or it won't seal properly. Adding gobs of RTV to remedy a bent pipe is not the way to do it.

It isn’t bent in a fall. Just came this way. Imagine sticking the pipe perfectly square in the exhaust port then installing the first mount by the water pump. In order to install that mount I need to pull the pipe back to get it to line up which ruined the alignment in the exhaust port. I’m trying to keep the pipe square in the exhaust port and slightly oversized o rings to help remedy the slightly worn exhaust port. The seal has broken on the last two occasions causing the bike to run and sound rough on and off throughout my rides.
