V force 3 reed install

The boyeson rad valve seems to be pretty disappointing on my Kdx 220r, It wasn’t the performance I was expecting when the engine was stock. I thought it would really shine once I did the FRP mods, carb, porting. I am now switching to the v force 3 reed and have a few concerns. The reed cage has an insert that doesn’t sit flush with the out area of the mating surface. I don’t know if I should rely on the oring built into the carb holder or just use a gasket there as it came with 2. What are your opinions, thanks.

I'm not sure of what you were really expecting of the RAD valve? Were you looking for more top, mid, low, what? That's what I run and have been quite happy with it.

I was looking for more off idle response.

Ah, I hear ya. I felt the same. Out of the box I think the Vforce has better off idle response between the two. However, after switching the RAD valve over to carbon fiber reeds it now responds the same as the Vforce.

I installed my V force reeds with the 2 gaskets it came with. One at the cylinder and one at the reed to carb boot joint. That was a maybe 4 years ago and it passed the leak down test right away and the seal has been good since. When I first installed them it was really rich at idle. I called Moto Tassanari and the guy told me it’s not unusual to have to go one pilot size down with their reeds. I did and it cleaned it right up.

Try wiping the lightest coat of grease possible on both sides of the gasket. Any paper gasket on the bike. If you ever need to pull the part for any reason the gaskets come off clean. Works great on the stator, clutch, and right cover gaskets. I’ve pulled all of those multiple times and never had a gasket stick. The reed gaskets through I would only use once but at least there’s no need to scrape off stuck gasket material when the time comes.

Thank you, I’ll probably just use both.

I’ll look into that but gonna give these v force 3s a shot for now.
