I bought a 12 tooth sprocket for the front to give me a little more torque I'm in need of replaceing the rear should I just get the stock 47 tooth or is their a better number that would go with that 12 tooth up front ??? what do most people run if they have a 12 tooth ???

I run a 12 CS and stock rear. It has cut down the top end speed but I rarely see 4th gear let alone the others past 4th.

Stock works great, it'll still run 60-65mph even with the 12t.

Get a RB Carb & Head Mod, VF3, pipes and go from there. I can pull a gear higher with those mods and I run stock front & rear sprockets.

Depends on what terrain you ride, your riding style, rear tire size, ect....

You say you want more torque...more than what? What gearing are you currently running?

Going down 1 tooth in the front is approx. the same as going 3 teeth bigger in the rear. CLICK HERE for Inda's post to the Chart. 12/47 is closest to 13/50.

well, like the previous person had stated, 12:47 is close to 13:50. you probably would have been better off to go with the 13:50 because using the smaller sprocket in front would put more torque on the driveshaft, and may cause the engine to wear out easyer. it also makes it just harder for the engine to spin it (not having as many teeth to grab) and could cause you to loose a small ammount of power.

A 12 CS is a simple gearing change from stock. It is cheaper and easier than replacing a rear sprocket to achieve the same gearing ratio. In my case this ratio allows me to stay in 3rd gear longer and with the SSS 3rd gear is a very good gear to be in. With the stock 13 CS gearing I had to drop out of 3rd too much. The one less tooth is not going to make the engine wear out easyer or easier. The 12 tooth CS gives it plenty of teeth to grab. Improperly maintained chain slack will create problems and wear in any case, but not a 12 CS. "Makes it harder for the engine to spin it"... "Loosing a small amount of power"? Just the opposite. It makes the power transfer easier. Detroit has wrestled this same issue for years. Install 4.11's and get the torque to the wheels but sacrifice overall mileage or install 2.73's and get better mileage to satisfy the EPA but less torque to the wheels. To answer the original question...I already did.

I agree with BradF-A 12 tooth is not something I would worry about.

while waiting on my 13t front, i ran a 12/50 gearing. it was actually very fun. especially on the gnarly rocky stuff. i rarely ride stuff that allows me to get past 4th as well.
