Air filter placement over the cage question

I just got another filter for my 220. The hole is small where the bolt goes through. Do you guys slide the filter hole over the brass collar or leave it to the outside? I’ve left it outside on all my other filters and that’s where it ends up getting torn up having the foam pinched between the brass and the washer.

What filter?

I slide the foam over. (Twin Air) (light dab of grease) not my pic

This one is a tusk filter. My other 2 have been twin air. I just had to throw one of the twin air’s away because the washer pulled some filter material away making the hole too big even though I greased the washer and brass.

Thank you for the reply. I’m going to put the filter hole over the large flange of the collar so the washer presses directly on the brass.

I always push the brass center of the cage through the air filter.

Perfect thank you guys again. I removed it this afternoon and pushed the brass through. I like that better than squishing the foam with the bolt and washer.
