97 parts fit 90?

i can get a almost complete kdx200 1997 minus front end for dirt cheap...
my question is will i be able to put some of the 97 onto the 90?
particularly the top end and carb/air filter as my 90 model is a 200sr and is a bit slower compared to a std 90 model?
cheers

sorry, pretty much a total re-do

like when they went from 1988 to 1989

you may be able to drop the 97 motor into the 90 frame with a bit of fabrication, but not likely to use any of the body parts or suspension bits.

You could swap front ends.

The shock reservoirs point down on high-boy pipe models and up on low-boy pipe models.

i have removed 28mm carby and am putting 35mm carby and intake manifold from 97 model..
removed rubber boot from carb to airbox..new one from 97 model will fit, just need to enlarge opening into the airbox as the newer one has a bigger diameter...should be able to use a jigsaw and do that pretty easily...that way the lid will still fit as it has a couple of electrical components on the top of it....newer airbox will probably not fit
my big question is the jetting...currently the 28mm carb has a main jet of 125...35 mm from the 97 model is running a 170 main...i was gonna put a 150/155 main...how does this sound for a start
i also have the cdi unit from the 97...maybe i will do that mod too
any ideas please?

What is stock jetting for a KDX200 1997 model from AUS?

Is your cylinder porting not a bit different than the dirt only model?

I would start super rich and work my way back. Better to foul a few plugs than blow a few engines.

I would hold off on the CDI until after jetting is sorted. If th porting and flywheel are not the same, it may not work so great.

i put a 97 carb and manifolds on, mated a std kdx200 airbox and it all fits....
jetting is an issue though..i jetted down to 150 main std pilot and it is super rich...im not gonna ride it right now, need to do a bit more work on this jetting issue...going back to std 28mm carb (125 main ) and run that till i get more time to sort it..i have an event this wekend and need to not be messing around with this while i am riding the vinduro..cheers rob

better to be super rich than super lean :-)

good idea to go back to normal for the vinduro

Good luck on the race. Post some pics in the race subforum. We are all glad to see another KDX get out there.
