About how many hours do you get out of a fresh cylinder replating job?

I recently had a local motorcycle shop do a complete rebuild of my KDX 200 engine. I just bought this KDX and the engine was still starting in one kick, but the piston and cylinder were scored really badly on both the front and back. So they sent it to Millennium Technologies for a replate. From what I've read Millennium does awesome work and has a very high quality, durable nickel/silicon carbide plating process. I've been looking around on the internet and I can't find a solid answer on how long people usually get out of a replated cylinder. If those of you reading this have had their cylinder replated, about how many hours or about how many piston/ring jobs were you able to get out of it before you had to send it in for another replating job?

Well, I've owned my 220 since it was new in 2001. It's been through 4 or 5 top end jobs, gets about 200 hours a year of riding, and I have never replated. If you take proper care you should easily get several years use out of a replate.

The most important thing is a clean, oiled air filter.

The second most important thing is a clean, oiled air filter.

After that, not letting the piston and rings wear so much they start rattling around is a consideration. It's a dirt bike, not a car engine.

Air filter, air filter, air filter!!). Clean, oiled, and in good condition.
I change the top end once per racing season, mostly because it costs so much to support a racing year, the cost of doing a top end job is minor.

Millennium has a lifetime warranty on their plating if that tells you anything.
