May I ask a favour and ask somebody to measure the length of the shock clevis, from the top of the clevis to the centre of the mounting hole, I have my eye on a Wr450 2014 rear shock that I'm going to try make fit. I'm in Australia now and the kdx is in Thailand so I have no way of checking, before I left Thailand I drew a diagram but left out that measurement. Cheers

OK. Your talking the clevis on the bottom of the shock that bolts to the bell crank? I measured at 2.25 inches from the top of the clevis, to the center of the bolt. Inside the "ears" of the clevis are 1.25 inches to blot centerline. My measurements were done with a tape measure, so quick & dirty.

I think that is pretty spot on. From my take off from the '98, eye balling it a bit, so not exactly precise, along with my cheap caliper, I got 53.22mm which would be 2.21". Hope that helps!

Thanks so much guys, exactly the info I was after, picked up the Wr450 2014 shock today. Interestingly it's identical to the shock on my yz426 2002, no change in 12 years, will take some measurements tomorrow and see how it will measure up against the kdx shock

If I could trouble the suspension gurus for a moment, I have the 2014 Wr450 shock on the bench now. The gas reservoir measures 61mm vs 53mm for the early Wr450 shock and 52mm for the kdx, that I don't think will be an issue as the photos I took of my kdx seems like there's plenty of room, shock length is the issue, the kyb 2014 shock measures 390mm from the centre of the top mounting bolt to the start of the clevis, plus 53mm for the clevis gives a centre to centre of 453mm, on my drawing I have written 428mm so I am 15mm too long. My dog links measure 119mm, what is the relationship between installing a longer shock and lowering it with dog bones, this kind of subject matter is completely foreign to me

Wish I had the knowledge to answer your question. That said, you can always have the shock shortened internally to match the KDX shock.

That might be an option. Do you know specifically how to internally shorten it. I can get a spacer machined up for 5 dollars when I go back to Thailand

Sadly, I don't know but I suspect there are Youtube videos and post/articles on the web showing the process.

The stars aligned and I picked up a shock from a 2009 Wr450 that had been rebuilt and lowered internally by 10mm for 30 dollars
