Hi, I was disassembling my 1989 KDX in order to clean the KIPS and found out that there's a crack in my transfer port leading to my cylinder wall. Can this be repaired and replated, or do I have search for another cylinder jug?

Based on reading and seeing what others have had repaired, I would think it is one that could be welded / repaired and replated. Look on the plating sites for pictures of worse ones.

Fair enough, would I be able to take this to a local welding shop, then sending it out to be plated? There's a local engine rebuilding shop where I live, would they be able to re-plate my cylinder after having it welded? Or would I have to send it away?

If the local shop is not named Millenium, PowerSeal USA or US Chrome, then I don't think they can replate itm, just send it off to have it done at the plater.
The replating places do repairs. I don't think it would be worth it to let two places work on it.

I wouldn't trust just anyone for this type of repair. You want someone who has extensive experience welding up cylinders and replating them. Had a similar crack fixed on my 220 by Millennium. Excellent looking work and that cylinder is being ridden on every weekend.

So, I have to send my cylinder away to be repaired/replated. I wonder if there are any Canadian shops that do this?

Canaduro, check with some of the bigger dealers around you and ask if there is a shop that does cylinder repair and plating in Canada back east. Must be something in that hub of the universe Ontario..
We have Mongoose Machine here in BC, I have had several cylinders plated by them over the years and they do nice work, sorry no damage repairs..

I can help at this end if you can't find anything local..

Sorry. I did not see you are in Canada, so options are different. Repair and replate or replace are the main options.

Millennium can fix that no problem. They are the best in the business.

Replacing isn't really an option, with 2 cylinders in all of north america, one in Canada,
Yeah, I called a local engine rebuilding shop, and they do send nikasil cylinders to be repaired/replated. Took the cylinder in today to get a quote.
He told me, cost wise the repair itself shouldn't be too much. They should have a quote ready in a few days or less.

3 if you count the NOS one in my hoard stash.

(not for sale, sorry)
Good luck on the repair / replate.
