Hi all.
Been looking on here a bit now as going to do the DC electrical conversion. And the information is very helpful.
The last bit of my puzzle is where to put the battery?
Ideally it would go in the air box, but I am finding out that small 12volt 6ah batteries are hard to find.
I am still very new to all of this and this might seem like a idiot question, but can I use this battery with some adapted connections.??
I am going to run a nice set of led lights, indicators, and horn, brake light too.
Any help greatly appreciated

There are a number of options, somthing like https://www.motosport.com/trail-tech-ni ... -X001-Y001 from Trail Tech or others. Pretty small and should easily fit under the seat

I saw this video this guy did on a KX100. Can’t remember where he put the battery. In the air box I think? He did a KDX200 too but I can’t remember which video was the the one where he messed with the battery

You could always mount a small battery behind the headlight as well. Modern lithium batteries are both lightweight and fairly small. It wouldn't take much to secure one behind the headlight and would probably be where I would mount one.

I like the air box idea better. If it comes undone at least it doesn’t go flying

There is very limited room in the airbox. I don't think I would like fighting to get around the battery, or removing it, each time I service the air filter.. With how light the new style batteries are I wouldn't have any worries running it behind the headlight.

Also consider that if you use a lithium battery, in the off chance it gets punctured, well, best of luck.

True but the odds are very low. Also, if you have a battery fire, which lithium based batteries have been known to do on occasion, you have a better chance of saving your bike if it's mounted behind your headlight. I've seen a few bikes on Youtube burn down due to a lithium battery fire in the past six months. You just can't get to it under the seat once the fire is going.

Have you considered just using a capacitor? I can run my modern fuel injected KTM 350 with no battery using a 10,000uF capacitor. Since we don't have an electric starter you don't really need to have a battery.

I am currently doing the same thing, except I want to put a hid bulb in mine. I have thought about using those 3 volt vape batteries in series, or buying a harbor freight 12 volt power tool battery for $20, or rechargeable AA or AAA batteries, or just a motorbike capacitor. I have a bunch of adjustable led blinker relays for cheap if you need one. You should post some pics of the rest of your electrical setup

I have mine in the airbox but thinking of finding new spot.

I got the Tusk one that was part of the dualsport kit that Tusk sells for the KDX. It sits right on top of the airbox lid and is easy to just move aside to access the air filter. A small piece of foam placed on top of it keeps it from rattling around, or you could zip tie it, it just wouldn't be as convenient when changing the air filter.
