Look on your local Facebook Marketplace, craigslist, etc. to see what others are asking for similar bikes. high teens around here, maybe $2,000 in great shape

I see what people are asking. For 250's and the KDX 200's. They ain't getting it. 2000 in great shape sounds more realistic than 2500

Asking prices are a lot different than selling prices. I’m also considering the old technology, often overlooked parts, and the fact that some parts will soon be hard to find. Not to mention aftermarket parts will start being discontinued at some point (the important stuff staying around longer). Also, you said clean LOOKING, which is distinctive. I wouldn’t pay 2000 for a 98 kx250. I just saw an 07 kx450f with many aftermarket parts for 2250 in my area.

I wasn't aware of any particular "cult" following for the KX like there is for the KDX. I would think $1000 max if in good-excellent condition. As a comparison, my buddy is selling his 2013 KTM 250SX ,which I know to be in top condition, asking only $2500.

doakley, no cult. The idea of $1,000 max = you NEVER buying a good-excellent bike again.
Will a $2,000 older bike sell quickly? No. Is there someone out there looking for that exact model and not expect it for little? Yes.
Do we not see people asking over $2,500 for a KDX?
Also, what everyone says is "excellent" or good is another man's "good" or "need's a lot of work".

It depends on where you live. In So cal, there are around 52 billion kx250s for sale that nobody wants, many for under a grand. But its not like that everywhere unfortunately, so there is no such thing as a specific dollar value for a bike. Its worth how much it sells for and it depends upon many factors

Everyone’s right. I wasn’t saying 1000 max for the record, just in that area, generally speaking. We can go on and on about this

Wow that looks clean. If there’s anything wrong with it, KDXgarage will find it. There’s boot rub so it does have hours.

My buddy sold his '03 KX250, which had a recent big bore from Millennium and '02 triples and shock, last year for $1900 to a friend. A really nice example around here should be between the $1500-$2000 mark.

No it isn't!
The bead is slightly unseated.
On a more serious note, great catch!

Probably correct

. I was thinking that isn’t a trail bike, it’s a race bike. I don’t see anyone racing buying it except at a very low price. Too many newer bikes out there.
