84 Flywheel

I continuing down the path of getting the kdx200 back on the dirt. Unfortunately the magnets in the flywheel are all messed up. I am guessing this is one reason the bike was parked. I'm not having much luck finding a replacement. I've read FRP had them, but don't see the flywheel listed on their site. I've also read a few threads that a Tecate 3 flywheel will work with some mods. Any specific year Tecate 3? Any other options?

Read up on modifying the stator plate to fit a newer model flywheel. There are a few threads on here. I know some have done it for 1986 - 1988 models.

Thanks! I do have a 1990 kdx200 flywheel and stator. Don't think it would work even with modding as the flywheel is heavier, used a nut to secure, and has a shorter snout. The backing plate is completely different as well. I might try and use the lighting and source coil and mount them to the factory 84 stator plate as my factory coils look in bad shape. Plus I think the lighting coil is beefier.

Yeah his wife sells the magnets now. Hopefully she still has access to the molds to keep making them

IMO it's not the best design...having exposed magnets. I've taken apart the new style and it's way more sorted out. plastic spacers..top cap. The magnets are bigger (ie longer) in the new ones as well.

People use marine epoxy or the highest strength JB weld, nothing that cures quickly. The trick is to CLEAN CLEAN CLEAN. Use acetone. Clean both the magnets and the bowl thoroughly. I’d go ahead and reglue all of them even if a couple are loose.
