Do any of you own a "parts bike" KDX in addition to your normal KDX(s)?

Every KDX parted out is one less KDX out there. New parts are still available.

A ton of parts are not available. Unfortunately, they are worth more apart than together sometimes.

This. When I had my bike apart I seriously contemplated just parting it out and walking away with a profit.

I still have part of my old '90's bottom end and most of '94 KDX250. Everything must go!

I guess it depends on what Gen. I haven't seen any new parts not available for the H series yet.
Its just sad seeing so many good classics quickly going extinct because everyone is cannibalizing them for a profit. KX250's are a perfect example, they used to be everywhere a dime a dozen. The KDX has the fatal stereotype of being "cheap" so nobody (even most KDX fans unfortunately) thinks they are worth putting any money into them more than chump change.
I've seen so many former KDX riders claim they cant justify spending any more money to fix their KDX because they are only worth X amount of money. Then they go buy a brand new KTM for 10K that in a year or 2 will only be worth half that and think they made a smart financial decision.
Not trying to rip on anyone for parting out a junk or clapped out bike, its the guys who part out perfectly good bikes just because they are worth more in parts. There are several Ebay sellers who make a living parting out perfectly good bikes.

you sound interested in starting a collection. I suggest that you acquire both 200 and 220's and centrally locate the gathered items. I tried a couple or five times but have used most of the parts over the years for my own needs.
I still have a few swing arms, sets of forks, wheels, axles, brake calipers, brake lines, handle bars, carbs, seats, air boxes(not a single lid however),levers, filter cages, silencers, and various after market items. A complete not running 1987 KDX200 and assorted parts for it.
I just can not part with any of them as I know they will eventually be integrated into current rider.
You know,I recall you giving the wife and me insider information on storage of accumulated bike parts which led to the implementation of just that.

as you probably know,I started, got things to where the floor was visible, installed the shelving as recommended, and enjoyed beautiful view from door.
Now with the items for house remodel, building is at capacity one more time---
i can get my bike in and out however.

Don't give up your bike's parking spot.

I've been putting doing something like this off for ages now. I think you just inspired me to finally stop procrastinating. haha

Yeah if the well known entity had not dropped by for a visit and then offered up truly profound advice regarding shelving, plus the wife just happened to be present and involved with that conversation, I'd probably have my KDX under a tarp. We used heavy duty metal shelving from homedepot, that although high end price wise, actually holds crap loads of weight and is fairly deep width wise PLUS you do not need tools to put them up! A rubber mallet and room to lay things out is it.
We wound up installing 4 units and bunches of totes thus creating a clean organized look. The excessive time involved going through and either keeping or throwing away a few years worth of accumulation. It had to be done and it was.
If I can de-hoard,anyone can. Not a single bike part was tossed or misplaced during the entire process and in fact, they are now stored and labeled and consolidated.
