Reed Options-OEM Cage

While replacing the top-end on my 04, 200 I noticed a gap on the tip corner of the cage where the petal seats (top and bottom). These are year or so old Boysen power reeds which one would think are durable enough to last several years. Is it possible the cage is deformed?

After changing out the originals with the power reeds the jetting needed to be changed from a 152 main to 155. Pilot 42 down to a 38. Needle same mid way. This seemed kind of strange going richer up top and leaner on the bottom but maybe its part of the design. I also noticed less bottom end with the Boysen PR's.

As for replacement reeds what are people using an why? I would like to gain more off idle vs topend. (PC platinum II pipe and air box cut only mods.)

Tks

You tube... boysen rep showing dyno reading of different reeds... basically stick with standard. They was making better hp.. if you over tighten screws that can make reeds go out of shape.. I was using dual stage boysen. Got rid of them. Now using high tech carbon fiber racing reeds. Work great in my 250.

I installed the stock petals and prior jetting. The low end is back, still breaking it in so haven't ran it hard up top yet.

I can't seem to link things to this site. I was using tap talk which was easy to use with mobile. I can't or don't know how to share to this site. I only have use via phone. Is there a kdx rider app lol? Basically I can't find kdxrider to share with.

That's my old riding buddy Dave Simons in the video. I put alot of stock in what he says. My 2001 wr 250 was a sort of test for that bike of his power now carb wing. He later sold off the rights to that device I think. He really knows his stuff as he has worked with fmf and was mr know it all for one of the dirt bike magazines. Well, enough of the love fest. Did he say that having tpi instead of carb have anything to do with test results? Just asking, not trying to be a smart ass

Yeah I heard tpi mentioned. Bottom line is have you ever noticed any performance changes with reed changes.. I haven't. I have always fitted boysen reeds To my bikes.

I've never used anything but boyesen reeds as well. I'll try to get in touch with Dave during the week and see if he has any input for the kdx. I know Kawasaki used to give him bikes in the early 2000's to see if he could optimize the intake and exhaust.

Oh, and Dan, no I haven't noticed any changes with the reeds except for a 1988 250r Honda quad. Since then, not so much.

I put dual stage boysen into kdx 250 sr. Hated delay whilst reeds were making there minds up. Before then just normal boysen. From standard. Noticed straight away from removing standard. Bottom end had gone.
So started doing research on reeds and came across this video amongst other people saying you don't gain anything. I'm glad because I was going to go boysen rad valve, but found on forums they don't gain. Same as v force no gain for the money they cost. I know use high tech carbon fiber. Only because I've lost original. Soft to open simlar to standard.. snappy bottom end power is back...

Dan, you have wasted 5 minutes of my life.

That guy is talking about a KTM with TPI, absolutely NOTHING to do with a KDX.

Wish I would have read this thread earlier in the season before I installed the dual stage power reeds. I guess I'll play with them and get my own opinion on them while they're in there.

I always have been disappointed with fitting racing reeds.
