Alright thanks and I'm new to the kdx but been studying them. and I just pulles the engine off the bike to check top end and things and maybe re paint the frame and things

But what exactly is the power valves are they inside the head or the one the governor arm connects to inside the side engine cover.. thanks

Power valves change exhaust during engine RPM.

You can download the owner's manual for free from Kawasaki.

There are a lot of threads on here explaining it better than that. Look around.

viewtopic.php?f=115&t=15320 for example

That arm generally gets broken when someone attempts to remove the KIPS lever. It is Left Hand Threaded and so it usually gets cranked on pretty hard then snaps (or worse the shaft snaps). Its the only reverse threaded fastener on the bike. The KIPS (power) valve system is contained within the cylinder and is actuated through the governer arm. Be a good idea to pull the right case cover off and inspect for any further damage, though your pin appears to be whole so you got off lucky.

Yes I did I read some story's about it destroying the gears but I removed the whole engine yesterday and pulled the clutch basket and everything to check it out it looked good and I pulled the head and cylinder to check the piston and power vavles,

Found a broken exhaust vavle  the right side one it was froze up I finally got it out and gonna post some pics of the others when I get home to see what y'all think.

Gonna post some pics of the piston to see if it should be replaced, the bore still looked good no deep scratches

Should I check the center rod on the vavles? I couldn't figure out how it came out didn't wanna mess it up

How does the center rod come out the one that has the cover on it near the main exhaust hole

  1. Remove the main exhaust valve cover using an 8 mm wrench.
  2. Remove the three bolts that secure the shaft advancer cover to the cylinder using an 8 mm wrench.
  3. Remove the shaft lever nut using a 10 mm wrench. It has left handed threads.
  4. Remove the exhaust valve operating rod retaining screw using a #2 Phillips head screwdriver.
  5. Gently pull out on the exhaust valve operating rod until it stops.
  6. Pull out the main exhaust valve until the machined groove in it lines up with the gasket surface for the cover.
  7. Pull out the idler gear, it's the one farthest to the right.
  8. Pull both of the exhaust valves upwards until the top of the gears are aligned with the head gasket surface.
  9. While the exhaust valves are held in this position, remove the exhaust valve operating rod from the engine.
  10. Remove the subvalves
The service manual and Cyclepedia also have great pics of how it all comes apart and goes together. It should be the first tool you buy.

Alright thanks I'll go ahead and order the manuals but I pulled all the valves out already the one on the side by itself was broke ( right side?) But here's what I don't know for sure if this one is suppose to come out or not I tried to gently pull ot out but didn't budge didn't want to break it.

I just replaced mine and it looked better than the pictured one. I would put in new piston, rings, wrist pin and wrist pin bearing, assuming your cylinder looks ok.

It does not look like it has been ran for a very long time, but definitely it was rich (all the carbon on top). The scuffs in the front may be from not warming it up properly.
