Time for a new cylinder?!?

Hey all it looks like my sweet '02 200 has eaten some sand. Prob going with PowerSeal to replate it since its fairly close and have a pretty good rep. I figure they have been in biz for a while, price seems fair and everybody else seems to not have issues. Any thoughts?
Heres a pic for laughs. Well, not really. :wah:

Those ports look very clean , almost too clean with hardly any carbon, & as for the piston that looks in good shape too albeit slight heat discolouration on the crown ...
Did the bike seize ??

No it was running well and has good compression. I just thought it was time for a rebuild and a new Wiseco. As fas as the ports, I agree they look good and the bike is in great shape. Im a little surprised to see the grooves but the electrofusion had a good run of 16 years.

How long have you owned the bike ...& is that a number I can see on the crown of the piston ?

Have had it for 1 year or so. I think there is a "C" stamped on the crown but no other lettering. Could that be oem?

Your title asks if it is time for a new cylinder. I would say no. I would definitely send it off for plating. I have read many positive reviews of PowerSeal USA here and on other forums. If I had to send off a cylinder for a plating, they would be on the very short list.

Vossman: Your build is awesome and I have learned a lot. Great job on the bottom end. I think I can get away with not doing that right now. Post some pics of your cylinder when it gets back!
J- Yes I meant the plating. Have read a lot about PS as well and it seems you cant go wrong. Im paying the extra $20 for them to pull the studs too. I will have to decide if I want to get it ported when it returns.

I am sending mine out to PS as well. I called today for pricing on a wiseco and gaskets. Super nice over the phone. Btw, they are backed up a bit, 2-3 week turnaround.

Does anyone know if they actually machine match to the new piston, or just machine it to factory spec and shove a piston in the box? I didn't ask this to the woman on the phone.

Normally they try and keep it standard, if scores are two deep there just bore it out to get a good surface. They should advise you once they see the barrel what needs doing ect. I think you only need to worry about matching piston exactly if you have a racing engine, I think they allow a bit more clearance for the higher reving piston expansion

If they have a piston to go off of they will work off that size. The Wiseco KDX piston is 66mm, Wosner is 65.95 etc. so I guess if you don’t tell them what your gonna put in it they’ll just do it to a predetermined size.

I sent a new Wiseco (66mm) with my cylinder. Its going to be a looong 3 week wait.

Take advantage of your 3 week wait, and do all the other stuff you forgot to do. Like, work on the bike. lol
