Hello everyone
I’m a newbie to the KDX group. I have a question that is bugging me..
Would anyone happen to know did the 1999 KDX 220r have a front brake light switch fitted as standard to UK spec bikes ?
My bike has one for the rear but not the front.
I hope you can help

Hello & welcome....
To answer your question , No the kdx didn't come with a front brake light switch , or rear however the SR version did ....the wires are there for a rear switch to be fitted but when pressed this sapped power from the headlight making it very dim .....over here in the UK the kdx did not come road legal as at that time plastic fuel tanks were illegal so an MOT fail , The kdx also didn't have a hi/lo headlamp or horn which also was a MOT fail , however toward the end of the 1990s it was permitted to run a plastic fuel tank.
Which part of the UK are you from ?

Hi. Thank you for the reply
I’m from Buckinghamshire
Yes the wires are to the rear switch and nothing for the front. To be honest I haven’t noticed if the lights dim. Only had the bike a day.
Would it pass an Day time MOT with just the rear brakelight switch??
MOT history states it’s passed every MOT with no advisory and still has an MOT till june..
It seams a genuine bike with no expense spared and no aftermarket parts..
I’m just abit worried when it come to the next MOT it would fail

You can duck tape the front headlight glass up , & the rear lens ....remove the long metal spring from the rear brake & you should be good for the next MOT .....when it passes then remove the tape , that way you'll have some lights if you ride at night .

Hi thank you for your advice
My bike has a high/low front light switch and all works
The only thing I can see that won’t get it through a FULL MOT is there is no rear number plate light and no front brake switch. It looks like a daytime MOT is needed.

I think you'll be ok by taping up the lights as that's what I do when it comes to MOT time .... Actually there isn't such a thing as 'daytime' MOT ...they will just put an Advisory that states no lights at time of test ....you will need a reflector on your number plate & a working horn
