Hey guys

I recently purchased a devol skidplate for my KDX. It came with as water pump guard. In order to throw the guard on, I'm going to need to remove the water pump cover bolts and reinstall the new bolts and spacers that came with the guard.
My question is, do I need to drain my coolant and replaced the water pump gasket to do this?

I'd give it a try w/o draining the coolant. If it leaks, get a gasket on order.

I unscrewed one of the bolts even slightly and it leaked straight away.

Order a gasket and a gallon of engine ice. You won't use even close to all of it, but it's still nice to have around.

Drain the coolant using the drain screw on the bottom of the pump housing and then remove the screws holding the pump cover on but don't remove the cover. Place the new spacers and screws in, tighten and refill. If it's not leaking before hand, just removing the screws without trying to take the cover off should work just fine.
