gas consumption Q

I took my (new to me) 98 KDX220 out for the first time today (2500' elevation, overcast/raining).
Just a brief ride, 16.8 miles on the mile-meter. I filled the tank before I headed out (40:1). I looked in the tank after and was surprised at how much fuel I'd used. Refilling required 5 1/4 pints (~ 0.66 gallons).
Was mostly in 2nd/3rd on gravel roads but I was giving it some gas.
How typical is this? Previous owner said he never had to play around with the jetting. Only change he had made was to drill out (but not fully open) the airbox,
