Fork Boots

My apologies if this has been covered, did a search and didn't find much...

Fork Boots: I have a new to me 2002 KDX 200, the fork boots had several tears / holes (several inches), so I removed them to clean / inspect. So... I'm guessing I should get a new set? Are there other options to serve the same purpose? Will I kill my forks by leaving them off?

FYI: New to this dirt thing, so forgive my ignorance.

Thanks,

Yes you want to replace them. OEM is pricy, but Ebay and aftermarket options are there, a lot of guys run the neoprene ones. Something is better than nothing, your seals will greatly appreciate it. It won't kill your forks, but they, and the seals will wear better with them.
