Kips inspection cover

Is the kips inspection cover an air tight seal? I was under the impression it wasn’t since you can remove it with the bike running to check if the kips is working but I’m doing a leak down test and noticed I had an air leak coming from that cover.

I removed the cover and cleaned up the rubber o ring and retightened the cover. No more air leak. Am I good here or is there a gasket or seal inside the kips system I need to be looking for?

The cover should be air tight. You really shouldn't have it off while the engine is running as it can cause a lean condition. To inspect the KIPS operation it is best to remove the cover on the right side of the engine.

Mine had an air leak there also. I replaced the oring and that took care of it. The engine runs much more consistent. Good job on finding it.
