Speedometer Drive on Axle Position

The repair manual and the owners manual (which comes with the bike) picture the cable pretty much vertical off the axle. Further on in the repair manual under the front wheel section it shows the cable routed further back, parallel with the fork. It would seem better routed and protected in that position. Which way are most owners setting the drive hub or does it matter?

Hmm, when I had a stock front wheel prior to the KX conversion, I always put mine parallel to the forks, even though I did not have the cable connected any longer.

I only have experience with the H series. There is a tab on the back of the fork leg a slot on the speedo drive that fit together. That puts the cable inlet about parellel with the forks.

Yes. He is correct. Look for the slot and tab.

I noticed the slot for the tab. That matches the angle on my 650r speedo. Honda routes the cable to the outside of the fork tube though.

Thanks!

Its one of those Asian knockoffs, very heavy with valves and stuff.

Seriouskly though I was comparing its speedo routing as a reference for the KDX.
