Built a Dirtbike Tiedown/ Loading System For My Tacoma

Hello all,

I fab'd up a quick loading system for my Tacoma and it works so well that I think its worth sharing. It is similar to the risk lock-n-load system, but uses long steel pins through the pegs (I saw a crude version of this on another site). The bracket adapts into the factory Tacoma rail system, and easy to remove (without tools). I've used it several times in the past few weeks, and it is super fast to load two bikes + the bikes are super secure.

The design is simple and really easy to make. I made it from whatever I could find in my scrap pile, but this can be made in a lot of different ways. I can provide dimensions if anyone is interested.

Thanks,

-Justin

Is that black metal piece in the middle bolted down?

It looks like all that is holding the bikes in is the four screws into the side of the bed. Is that correct??

Did you buy the bikes after the truck?? Which came first? How deep is that bed?

The bracket is held only by the side rails. The middle plate is not bolted down to the bed. I added that plate so that i can screw it down to my trailer if I needed to. The plate does help take some of the flex out of the middle stantion though.

This is my second Tacoma, so I've had a Tacoma prior to these bikes. The bed depth is 19".

That is a smart design.

What is the length of the bed, is I guess what I should have asked. I have an 8 feet bed on my truck. As long as I can ride, I see myself sticking to that, even though parking is a joy sometimes.

The bed is 5ft, so the wheels sit on the tailgate. The bracket is about 48" from the front of the bed.

Pretty cool! So do you compress the suspension to get the foot pegs into the brackets? Or do the bikes just roll in and use the pins to hold them?

The mounts are a tad lower than the pegs, so a little bit of compression on the rear is needed. This keeps the bike supported without the pins. I drilled a series of holes in 3/4" increments, so I can move all the brackets up and down if needed. The height works well with my 95 cr and my buddies xr400. My ragged out kdx is a little shorter, but it goes in and works just fine.

Btw, I read your kx build thread. Awesome work man. I just picked up an 03kx125 roller this weekend to do the same. These kx's feel so small and nimble... even compared to my 95 cr.

Nice, I definitely like it. I too have a Tacoma just like yours haha I always thought about making some type of chock for the front wheel to lock into, but I think I might like design better.

And thanks about the build thread! It is an absolute blast to ride, super nimble feeling, you will love yours! Let me know if you have any questions along the way, I'd be glad to help if I can.
