No such thing as a 1997?

So I wanted to get my dad a wiseco for his 220. But he says that the year is a 1997. I went to the shop and they said they didn't make them in 1997. For those of you that know your bikes. My dad's 220 is that green, purple, and white bike. I'll attach a picture if possible. I said that most likely a newer wiseco will work in it as they didn't change much on them besides the frame. (Right?) But he said I should clarify the year of the bike first. I believe the whole name is KDX 220 A4

97 is the first year for the 220's (I have one also). They made them 1997 to 2005. Pistons should be the same for all 220's (Use caution when ordering, they do make 1 or 2mm oversized pistons. I would measure the old piston or cylinder bore before ordering just to be sure you don't need the larger one). I have a Wiseco for mine. Maybe the parts book at the bike shop was missing one year or something?

Yeah, there's lots of erroneous and incomplete information floating around in supposedly accurate files.
When in doubt, it's best to check your bike's VIN against Kawasaki's records which are available online, and take measurements of what you actually have.
In my case, I have what started life as a '97 220, and all the official paperwork is so listed. Only thing is, the PO converted it to a 200. Didn't discover this until I was about to order a Wiseco 220 piston and decided to measure the bore first. I was both surprised and disappointed, but stuff happens I guess.

I have the same 1997 kdx220-a4 and ran it the same problem with the wiseco catalog. Just pick the 1998 piston. It's a catalog error, not a bike error.

I would also suggest you measure the psiton and cylinder before ordering a piston. Order for what you know, not what you think.
Also, KDX220R was sold in the USA from 1997 - 2005. They started in 1994. How else did the first one in the USA be a "-A4" unless there were three more before it sold somewhere else?

Apparently I lied. Checked the vin on my bike and it's an 01, not an 03
