TO HONE OR NOT ?

installing a new wiseco piston in my 1998 kdx 220r do I hone the cylinder or not anyone know for sure ?

No honing on a plated cylinder. If it's within spec and scratch free you just need to clean it up.
Go on YouTube and search "nikasil cylinder care". It's from Jeff slavens racing and he explains it pretty well.

At the most you can take a green scrubber and lightly go over the cylinder, but definitely do not run a hone over it.

He did not state plated or sleeved.
OP, is it a sleeved cylinder or plated??

He stated its a 98 KDX220R so it would be plated.

from the factory....it has been 20 years since it was manufactured. What happened since fall of 1997 when it hit the showroom floor is a long tale.

Actually, stock is not Nikasil, it is Electrofusion.
If it is stock / plated, then DO NOT HONE.

Unfortunately, the reference on Nikasil cylinder deglazing is in an oriental language, and possibly something related to Christmas holiday. Too bad. Might have useful information
