KDX 200 YEAR?

I have a KDX 200 for a little while now and recently I decided to do a VIN check and it said that my bike was a 96. Now I want to make sure that my engine is a 96 also. When I bought the bike the guy told me the bike was a KDX 220 1997. I soon find out that it is a 200 not 220 by the stamp on the engine. I know how to check the VIN on the frame but what about the engine?

All KDX 200 made since 1995 are the same, so the engine S/N is really academic.

Now, if you think you might have a 220, well that's another story. All top end parts are different from the 200. Best way to tell the difference is to measure the bore.

When I bought mine, the PO and all paperwork and graphics says its a 220, and I was just minutes away from ordering a new Wiseco 220 forged piston, but thought it best to measure the bore first. The bore measured 66 mm. Turns out the PO had converted it to a 200, presumably due to the notorious 220 piston grenade. My cases have no S/N stamping.

The ENGINE NUMBER is on the left side, up underneath. Get down real low with a flashlight.
