hello, I just recently acquired a barn find one owner 83 kdx300 all original....sounds great right? it had been there for so long that it almost literally exploded all of the plastics off upon touching and moving out of the barn.

its been sitting a long time and needs quite a bit

carb and or rebuild-----rebuild kits?
rubber intake is dry rotted-----new one?
gas tank-----new or universal?
plastics------new or universal?

Ebay and other barn finds, or craigslist. Its a 34 year old bike that has been out of production for 32 years...not to mention it's one of those super rare 300s...I think only 1 of them was ever made lol

How's the big end rod bearing? Does the engine crank over okay?

That lower end rod bearing, not sitting in an oil bath, could be the Achilles Heel of this engine.

lol wow...I didnt even know there was a kdx300! Got any photos of the bike? Do you know any details on the carb, like what it is? I'm sure we can help you find some stuff in one way or another!

Ok thanks for the new guy hazing. Lol It was a typo. I don't know much about it yet other than it was running about a year ago but running rough. Cranks over fine it seems. The rubber intake is dry rotted thru now and the carb seems to be locked up.

Look on eBay for a possible carb to engine boot replica replacement. There are a couple of guys on there making them for a variety of older bikes, but I am not sure of which ones.
