Never trust an old air filter

Not sure how old the filter was, but it looked pristine when I first got this bike from my dad a couple months ago ('82 KDX 250). The bike was last ridden about 10 years ago. Filter still had plenty of oil soaked in, so I figured it was OK for a couple rides. Two rides later, this is what I found:

The filter basically disintegrated over the course of 80 miles. I've already taken the carburetor off and cleaned it thoroughly... But the bike was still running great, so hopefully that means nothing too terrible got sucked into the engine.

Lesson learned.

WOW! That is bad. I hope it turns out OK.

I don't have any reason to believe any damage has been done. Bike was still running well when we ended our last ride. I'm excited to get everything back together and start it up again. New air filter, cleaned and re-packed silencer, new pipe springs, o-ring and crush washer, cleaned carb, etc... Basically all of the maintenance stuff I should've done before ever riding the thing
