How do you tighten the chain on the 1990 KDX200? And also how much slack should there be? 
basically, loosen axle nut, use adjusters, tighten nut
about 55 mm, i think

treat yourself to a manual for Christmas.
or the very least the owners handbook.
lots of useful basic info (with pictures) in those.

Kawasaki does offer owner's manuals as fee downloads. Not sure if these are also available for out of production bikes like your 1990 KDX 200, but it's worth a try.
I've been looking at Kawasaki's new (to the USA) KLX 140G and wanted more information. I tried downloading an owner's manual from Kawasaki's site, but ran into navigation problems. I was successful in getting the parts department of my local Kawasaki dealer to email to me the owners manual.
See if your local dealer can email you a copy.
