Is this a cylinder that has had the stock Electrofusion coating stripped, then electroplated? Look on Google for mention of cylinder porosity. I have seen a small sample of people report seeing that after a plating.

Original piston, good compression and no damage on head or piston
I think its the original cilinder plating

Yea, that is definitely porosity. It occurs at the while the casting process is taking place (tiny little bubbles in the molten aluminum that pop while the part is being poured/cured). I would think if you had it Nikasil plated, it would fill the voids and provide an even surface.
I wouldn't put it back together like that, I'd definitely call a plating house like PowerSeal or Millenium Tech and get their take on it. My guess was that this porosity was always there, and the original plating was able to fill the voids... or maybe Kawi deemed it acceptable as is? (we allow some porosity in some parts where I work). Hard to say, I've never seen this on a KDX.

When I have seen it, is has been from people on here and other forums saying it was after replating from a plating company, not stock.

^Me too. In the info that Powerseal sends back with their cylinders, they mention the porosity and that is normal. Plating wont fill the voids.
I am not sure if it was in the Powerseal info or if I read it somewhere else, but the claim was that the voids were a good thing because they trapped oil.

SS109 had this occur in his E Series build. USChrome told him it was normal. I have his cylinder now and have no problems with it.
Here is a link to his post, just scroll down. Somewhere in that thread he mentions USChrome said it is normal.
