hard starting when cold- 12 kicks

I've got an 01 KDX200.

I replaced the carb recently and now it takes about 12 kicks to start (with choke on)
when it's cold.

Once it starts it runs much better than before I replaced the carb.

Any idea what would cause the hard starting?

Have you checked your compression? Low compression makes them a pain to start when cold. Check your floats aswell, try leaning the bike over with the fuel tap on and choke on and then give it a few priming kicks.

+1 for priming kicks... just cycle through a few times to get fuel pulled through, then kick
