Governor shaft removal

I dont know how to post a picture but I'm trying to remove the positioning pin for the governor shaft. It's behind the tiny Phillips head screw that goes in the clutch cover. On the old cover it just fell out, but on my new cover its stuck in there. In the service manual it says to remove the screw and press out the pin? But you can't get behind it to press out? How do yo guys remove? Turn upside down and tap? Any help much appreciated
