My 1987 KDX200
I just picked up an '87 C model a couple of weeks ago. I made all new rear suspension bearings for the rear suspension as it was shot. Had to order a rear shock to rebuild from ebay. Once I had the rear suspension sorted I thought I'd do something with the exhaust. I looked on ebay and elsewhere on the web and noticed that my expansion chamber is indeed already an aftermarket pipe.
My question for you guys is this; Who all made pipes for the C model KDX200's? I ask because it is not obvious as to the make of the exhaust that is on my bike although it is clearly not factory. I do not know how to post pictures yet, any help would be great. I can say it is not a DG, FMF, or stock. Just wondering if I could identify the pipe on my bike.

Hello, and welcome to the forums. DMC, PSI and Krause made pipes also, I think. I think PSI had "PSI" stamped on the large part of the pipe, though.
Any chancce you might post a picture?

Maybe that will work.
Very light pipe, thin metal and nice quality. I will eventually have it repaired and the dents taken out of it.

Is it stock? Odd that an 87 has 2 springs. Are you sure it is an 87 cylinder?

Yea, its ALL 1987. Cleaned the KIPS the other day. No markings. The bike had the KX250 shock and link on it when prev. owner bought it in 1990 or so. Also had the exhaust on it too. It has an FMF sticker on it but it most likely has no attachment to the pipe. Someone cared about this bike early in its life and did some $$$ upgrades. Both the pipe and the cylinder have 2 spring mount locations.

I saw more pictures. One pipe was silver and one was black. Is it the same pipe?
If the pipe has 3 mounts, that might be stock from 1988. 1986 and 1987 had two.
Good job on the rear fender.

Yes. It's the same pipe. It has the mount at the top in the front and 2 spring hooks. The stinger end of the pipe has been repaired at one time so the mount back there is MIA. It is made very differently than the stock pipe.
Oh, and since I have cleaned and set the KIPS on it the thing downright gets it. It feels like the pipe comes on at the same time as the KIPS. Really enjoying this thing.
And the fender is a temporary piece. I am going to get the proper fenders and headlight for it over the winter. But thanks for the compliment.

Re: My 1987 KDX200
I have made some nice upgrades to my KDX. Rear hydo-disc brake and wheel from a '93 CR125r. Also put the front end from the CR on it as well. Just did a fresh top-end too.
Completely changed the bike! Super handling and stopping power now. It looks, runs and handles like a modern machine. Once I finish the road kit and DC/battery conversion it will be exactly what I wanted. After that it is registration time.
