86-88 KDX Flywheel REPLACEMENT!!!!

Post by hbgod »

Story time first skip to bottom for the Link.

So ive been waiting to get my motor from my kdx build from the machine shop for a year now and got sick of waiting so i bought another bike with a running motor. Ran at the guys house and brought it home for $400. The rest of the bike needed alot of love but all i cared about was the motor anyway. Swapped it into my chassis. Then after kicking it a handfull of times it locked up. Low and behold the flywheel magnets broke off and locked the bottom end. This is the one part that i do not have a spare of and until very recently you could not get a replacement for.

Thank you to the guys over at ricky stator for making a full replacement kit for our aircooled KDX200s.

Well, holy ship. Thanks for the mention. I thought they could have easily done it ten years ago.

Right! It looks to me like they are using a later model KDX stator and flywheel just with a custom stator plate?

I just tore down an 87 that I got on trade. Sure enough... flywheel magnets broke off and destroyed the stator. I need to find a solution. The ricky stator looks great but that's a lot of fundage. Any ideas on other solutions possible?

You could go looking on ebay; but finding one is rare and it will probably do the same thing. If it was me, I would save up the fundage and go with the Ricky Stator option.

When available, new OEM was around $700, so their price is great, and it even being available is awesome.

You can search on here for using a newer flywheel and how to drill new holes for the old stator plate. (and you will need new coils... FROM RICKY STATOR)

$325 for the stator and flywheel is nothing. Thats the cheapest way youll do it. Even ebay flywheels end up being $150-$200 and you usually have to repair the lighting coil because the magnets rub the coating off.
