KIPS shaft replacement

Post by Shooter88 »

Hello all, I am new to the forum and have very recently purchased a 1991 KDX 200, with that I have removed the engine from the bike and have begun to revive it. I did a compression test on it and it held at 165, but reading on here about the kips got me worried. So I pulled the head off and lo and behold I was missing the idler gear and both subvalves were broken so I pulled them out and someone had stuck a bolt on top of the RH sub valve and doing that wore down the teeth on the shaft. So I dropped the cylinder off to have it honed and ordered $700 worth of parts through Kawasaki. But they could not get me a new shaft I did get both sub valves bushings etc. would any one know where I could find that new kips shaft because I can't find one on e bay or anything.

KIPS shaft replacement

Place a wanted ad here on the forum. I'm sure someone can hook you up. You also might try OEM Cycle on Ebay even if they don't have anything listed. They're pretty good about finding parts and it never hurts to ask!

He makes the valves(I have them for my 92 that's with the surgeon), but I don't think they make the shaft.

Joy to the world!

I actually found the updated part number for it on babbits and I took it to Kawasaki and it's a good number and they got it ordered for me!

KIPS shaft replacement

Quick up date on the kips shaft, so after I found out Kawasaki does not carry have the part for the kips shaft, I scoured eBay and CL and many used motorcycle places across the U.S. I ended up finding one in the UK it's now on its way! All I have left is to get my cylinder back from millennium tech and re assemble and ride it! And to be honest with the scarcity of parts it's like I don't want to break this bike!
