Finding a Complete KDX Engine

So after reading about the hybrid KDXs, I started looking into making one myself. I see a couple 2001 KX125s on CL that I could buy relatively cheaply. Then I would need a KDX engine. I don't know where I would get a complete engine for a fair price without having to pay for an entire bike with it. I did a couple quick searches on eBay and couldn't find any complete engines; most of what I saw were just the cases.
Do people on this forum do sales/trades of engines?

Honestly you are better off with a complete bike. You will run into things besides the motor that you will need. You can run the cost up pretty quick when buying things.

I hate to say this, but ecojbr is correct
so, if you are willing to sacrifice a good KDX to built a hybrid, you can probably sell enough parts from the KDX to get back your purchase price and in essence, get the engine for free
(shoot, the kickstand alone will fetch 100 bucks)

I built two hybrids, one each way.
The net cost was much less building from 2 complete bikes and selling the leftovers.

I was originally thinking of getting an entire KDX but I can't find a good H-series KDX for under $2000.
What KDX parts do I need for the hybrid other than the engine?

Look at my list on the left side: pipe; cdi and wiring; kx250 spark arrestor; carb (although you can run the kx carb); clutch cable; KDX rear wheel (if you want an 18")

Central KY. I almost found one for $600 with a slipping kick-starter but I only called the guy right after it was sold.
I think I might just buy the KX125 for now and maybe do a swap later when I find a good KDX.
