Hi all,
I know it's not just KDX but you guys have helped me out no end in the past so I figured someone might be able to help.
Basically looking at entering some hare scrambles this winter on my trusty 220, I have looked at the course and wow is it muddy. I mean balls deep mud everywhere.
I've looked all over the place and cant seem to find any gloves that are specialist for mud covered grips or even advertised as being good in the mud. The pair I have now are great for general off roading but everything gets slippery as hell when those handlebars get gunked up.

Do such a glove exist?

No.

After all the years of buying and wearing out gloves I have settled on Mechanix gloves. The impact line is good for bikes. Cheaper too.

Haha, yeah didn't think so. Apart from the mechanix gloves has anyone got any info on which would be best? Heard about kyacking gloves? Maybe mtb? or maybe just best to buy a cheap pair to swap too when it get real bad.

where are you racing?
I've had good luck with O'Neals in the past....and they are cheap too. Another good glove is the Fox Racing Dirt Paws....
These are the gloves I've used; One Ind, Atom and Gamma...I like the Atoms better than the Gammas, neither is great in the mud...O'Neal Elements, pretty good in the mud, I actually switch to these when the mud is bad....My son is using Answer Syncron gloves, he said they are great in the mud and the mud doesn't get into them at all (that means he can still grip).
IMO Mechanix gloves are crap.....I've started using cheap/inexpensive MX gloves at work since they tend to last longer and have better feel....I use One Ind Zero gloves for working on bikes, at work and when loading/unloading bikes. They are a great "machanics" glove and I get them for $8.00 at RMATV (I add them to bigger orders to get free shipping or when I already have free shipping).

I ride in the south of the UK. Seems the mud in winter can mean you not only cant see what colour your gloves are but even how many fingers you have, just hoping they are all still hanging in there after the last crash.
The syncron gloves look good, O'Neal gloves seem to have bad build quality according to a lot of reviews I have read.
Any tips on keeping grips and gloves clean? Apart from landing on my face rather than my hands,haha. Or best way to clean them in a hurry?

mud = avoid it. it destroys chains, clogs filters, and makes the bike HEAVY if you drop it. pick a hot line away from the mud if you can, or just don't enter a mud-fest in favor of something that doesn't suck. racing in mud just plain SUCKS. the fast (good) guys will even slide into folks while making clean passes, and there are a lot more damages to bikes and riders if there is a lot of mud.

whatever brand of gloves you look at, check to see if it has d3o in it. this is a corn-starch like suspended material that is soft and plyable until it's STRUCK with something. then it turns very firm and prevents deforming or puncturing. so when you're riding it's plyable and soft, but rocks/trees/etc will be deflected without popping your knuckles.

Use some sort of hand shield. You can dip your gloves in tool dip to help with the waterproofing. I've seen guys ride with work gloves that have rubberized palms and a cotton back like these https://www.bing.com/images/search?q=wo ... ajaxhist=0, which is where I got the tool dip idea.....We can get the stuff in spray cans here.
If you crash, close your hands into a fist and try to land on your elbow.

When my hands get to slick I just find a close tree and rub my hands on it. Works every time.

I know of guys that I ride with that put rubber gloves over the "regular" gloves they are wearing. Keeps your hands dry and warm. Rubber gloves are also pretty cheap too.

cheers for all the advice guys, I always manage to find myself close to a tree at some point, usually giving it a hug at speed so I like the rubbing technique. Seems I might just buy a couple of pairs of cheap gloves to fling on in the pits if necessary.

For mud i ride with Maxi-flex gloves....theyre made for the tradesman....very thin and not much for padding but grip very well especially with the Renthal kevlar grips which are very sticky IMO.
